  Windows 7 or later. Connect with a USB cable or wirelessly using the Xbox Wireless Adapter for Windows or via Bluetooth (Windows 10 only). Not sure if this might help others. I just picked up an XOne controller for my PC and I ran into this same issue. I have Windows 7 SP 1 and I'm generally picky. Connecting my brand new xbox wireless controller on Windows 7 turned out to be a bit of a PITA so I've decided to share a quick run-down as.
